The following are screenshots for the Opera Browser, Version 7.51 build 3798. This is the free version of Opera; with the paid version you can get rid of the advertisements at the top of the Opera window, have more skin options, and a built in pop-up blocker. The basic Browser window looks similar to Netscape or Mozilla. More information on what Opera can do, and how it works can be found at www.opera.com or by selecting F1 while in the Opera program.



On the top you will see the Menu listings.

On the next level you will see the basic browser buttons, rewind, back, forward, fast-forward, re-load, home, wand, and new.

1.The Wand button allows you to log into a section of a website or a secure website where you have asked Opera to remember the login information. This option is only available when you have the login page to the specified link or site open.

2.  The New button will open up a new page. You can have as many websites open within the Opera program as you would like, however the more you have open the more resources of the computer the program is going to utilize.


The next level down you will see more buttons and options.

1. The Opera folder contains specific links to Opera related items, such as Opera's home page.

2. Opera Community takes you to your Opera website, it you have customized this at all. Similar to My Onewest or My Netscape.

Opera Web Mail takes you to log into any opera email account through their web interface, this is a free account and can be used to send text emails to cell phones.



On the next line down, you will see tabs for all the websites you currently have open.

1. You can go from site to site by selecting the individual tabs

2. You can open a new blank page you can select that button.

The last line down before the page you will see the page related buttons, like rewind back forward and fast forward. On the same line you will see the address bar as well as the Search bar and the graphics percentage of how you would like to view the page.

Directly to the left of the browser window you will see some Quick links to tools built into the Opera Software. By selecting any of these tools it will open up another Window related to the tool selected. The following Screenshots goes through each of these tools and gives a basic explanation of what they do.



By Selecting the Search Button it will bring up the Search Panel, which allows you to type in what you are trying to search for and then select the search engine you want to look in. You do not have the ability to change what Search Engines this tool allows you to use.



The Bookmarks Panel allows you to view all the general Bookmarks Opera has created as well as manage any you have Saved.

The Add button allows you to add new items to your bookmarked list and the View Button allows you to select how you would like Opera to display your bookmarked pages.




It has a Search field built in so even if you don't remember where you saved a specific bookmark it allows you to find it easily and go to it by.



The Mail Panel brings up a little version of the Mail Client that is built into the Opera Software.

You can use this client just like any other mail client to send and receive, compose, etc.


This Mail Client has a few built in features customers may be interested in looking into further, like a spam filter.

The Search field here will allow you to Search within the Mail client for specific messages or folders.



The Contacts Panel allows you to compose Email Contacts and save them in this tool for future use. This tool works alongside of the Email Client.

The Add and Compose Buttons allow you to add a person to your Contact list and Compose brings up a New Email Screen where you can compose an email and then have the Software save the Contact you are sending the Email too to your Contact List. To remove them you would need to right click on the Contact and then select delete.



The Search field in here allows you to Search within the Contacts.



Opera has a built in Chat Client Panel, which customers can use instead of a separate Instant Messaging client.

The List Rooms button will show you a server and will list all the open available rooms within the server or you can select the New Room button to create your own room.



The Notes Panel gives you a notepad built into Opera.

The New Note Button allows you to create a New Note, the send button allows you to send a note through the built in Mail Client. You can delete notes by right clicking on them and selecting Delete.


The Search field in here allows you to search within the Note function.



The Transfer Panel opens up the Transfer Window that will show you all the current files you have downloaded from Specific Websites or Servers.


You can Stop current Transfers by Selecting the Stop button, you can also ask Opera to remind you later of a download you had Queued so that you can resume the download or Start the download at that time.

The Quick Download allows you to enter a web address of a file link to begin the file download.



The History Panel shows you the history of all the websites that you have visited.

Websites located in the browser history can be opened or deleted here by highlighting the site and selecting open or delete.


The Search field allows you to search for sites located in the History.



The Links Panel shows you all of the available links on all the websites you have open in Opera, if you have more than one site open it will show you the links for the current site you are looking at, as well as all other sites that are currently open.

The Lock Button allows you to Lock the Links available, so that Opera will only show you the links on the website you are currently viewing.


The Save Button allows you to Save the link list to a place on your hard drive.


The Search field allows you to Search for a Specific link.



The Windows Panel shows you all the open pages within Opera.

The New Button allows you to open a New page

The Reload Button allows you to highlight and reload a specific page that is currently open in Opera.



To manage other Browser options Opera has a Preferences window that is similar to Netscape or Mozilla. It also has a Quick Preferences Window to turn on or off specific features built into Opera.


To view the Preferences Windows go to Tools. And then select either Quick Preferences or Preferences depending on what you want to manage or modify.



The Quick Preferences allow you to modify the functionality of some options within Opera.

    •  The Pop-up options allow you to customize how you want Opera to handle Pop-up windows.

    •  The next block of options allows you to set how Opera will handle specific websites that contain built in scripting and coding.

    •  The third block of options allows you to set how Opera will handle Cookies and Secure Site Certificates as well as Proxy Servers.

The last block of options allows you to set what Opera will identify itself as, and it gives you the option to identify it as Opera,



The Preferences Window will list all the available preferences that you can manage or modify on the left side.

It starts with the Start and Exit Preferences.



The Start preferences will determine how Opera will open.

The Exit preferences will determine how Opera will close.



The Language Preferences allow you to Specify what language you would like to view Opera and websites in.

The user interface language is how you see the Opera program itself.

The preferred language for web pages is the language you will see web pages in.

The encoding helps determine what characters to use for the language you choose.



The Personal Information can be filled out and saved for use at later times in filling out forms on the internet. To paste this information into a form you are filling out right click on the form. You will then see a side window that shows insert personal on the top. When you put the mouse over insert personal it will show you a side window with all of your personal information, you can then choose the information you want entered into a specific field in the form.



Advertising allows you to choose what types of banner Ad's you will see at the top of the Opera window.



The first option will base the ads on sites you visit and searches you run, the second option shows you a generic selection of ads.


If you purchased Opera you have the option to remove the banner advertising.



Search allows you to set the default Search Engine as well as list the keyword used for multiple search engines.



This allows you to perform a search right from the address bar by typing the keyword associated with the search engine and then what you are searching for.


You can also specify the number of search results you see per page, this may not work with all search engines



Toolbars and Menus allow you to use built in default toolbars and menu set-ups or customize your own.

This allows you to choose the toolbar and menu set-up you would like to use.

Opera does have a built in Holclick menu, by double clicking on anything within a website Opera will then show you any related information it can find on the word or picture.



Mouse and Keyboard allows you to customize mouse gestures as well as keyboard shortcuts.

Mouse Setup gestures are automatically turned on in Opera, these can be performed by doing small quick mouse movements to perform frequently used browser operations.

Keyboard Setup allows you to set-up specific keyboard shortcuts or use the Standard ones built into Opera.

Auto completion allows Opera to remember web sites you have visited and if you go back to that site instead of having to retype the entire web address Opera will load a dropdown menu containing the websites that have those



Windows is how Opera will handle websites. Opera gives you several preferences in how you want the windows within the program to be handled, including how to cycle pages, loading pages, and how to open new pages. Also gives you some options on how to function within websites and whether or not Opera will show tooltips or not.




Sounds allow you to set or customize the sound Opera makes when performing a specific task, like opening or closing the program. This can be disabled by un-checking the option to enable program sounds.




Fonts allow you to specify what font to be used in each function of Opera.

You can change the fonts used to send email, fill out forms, view web page source code, etc.


You can set what you would like to be the minimum font size.


You can set the font Opera uses when text cannot be directly displayed by selecting the International fonts button.



Page Style allows you to customize how you look at websites.

The Zoom option allows you to customize to what degree you want to view websites. It is defaulted to 100, if you increase this the text and images get larger, if you decrease this they get smaller.

You can set the background color, link styles, default mode, and where on your hard drive Opera saves your style sheet.



Multimedia allows you to determine how Opera will handle images, sound, and scripting in web pages.

You can customize what icons and image types Opera will display as well as what plug ins it will use.



Programs and Paths gives you the ability to customize what protocols and programs can be used for specific functions.

Enable Mail and Chat gives you the ability to use the mail client and chat client built into Opera.

When downloading files the download directory shows you where the downloads will be saved to.

The source viewer allows you to chose the program that will show you the source code for web pages.

The Protocols allow you to view the program that will be used for a



Email allows you to specify what email client Opera will use.

Use Opera will set the mail client within Opera as the email client Opera will use.

Use default e-mail client on computer will allow you to specify Opera to use what is listed as the default email client. This will show you what is set as the default email client but will not allow it to be changed.

Use specific email client allows you to specify what Opera will use as the email client, in case this is not the one set as the default mail client.


File Types show how Opera will handle specific files transferred through Opera to your computer.

Determine action by Mime type will allow Opera to determine how to handle the file based on the Server it came from.

Determine action by file extension if Mime type is unreliable allows Opera to determine how Opera will handle the file based on the file extension. This indicates what type of file it is and then allows Opera determine what program can open up that specific type of file.



Default application allows you to set Opera as the Default Browser. It also allows you to specify Opera to handle web related files and protocols when trying to access these from another program.








You can also Specify Opera to be the default browser by checking that box as well.




Network allows you to manage the browser identification, proxy servers, server name completion, performance, international web addressing, server errors and ftp.

Browser identification will show you how Opera will identify itself on the internet and to other servers.



Proxy servers can be set-up if your internet or network connection goes through a proxy server, some web accelerator applications will route your internet connection through a proxy server in order to accelerate the ability to browse.

Server name completion allows Opera to search for bookmarks or computers on the local network based on what is entered into the address field.

Performance options allow you to set how many connections Opera can establish to a specific server at a time and how many total connections it will allow to multiple servers. It also gives you some DNS and FTP options.



History and Cache allows you to manage the history and cache that Opera uses.

You can set how many typed in addresses and visited addresses Opera will cache and you can clear this info using the clear buttons.

You can also set the amount of memory Opera will use to store viewed websites, or you can turn this option off.

The disk cache allows you to specify how much disk space Opera can use to store documents, images, and other items. You can empty this by selecting the empty now button or you can set Opera to empty it upon exiting the program.

When you revisit Web pages, Opera normally asks for new versions even though most Web content is not updated very often. Some Web sites also redirect you to a different page than the one you attempt to view.

Checking for changes less often, and disabling redirection checking, may speed up your browsing experience.



Privacy allows you to control your privacy on the internet.

Enable referrer logging allows some websites to be able to determine what website you came to theirs from so that it can behave accordingly.

Enable automatic redirection allows web pages to automatically redirect you to another web page.


If you log into a website, the log in page will automatically be deleted from Opera's cache when you close the program.

To make sure that web pages you visit within the password protected site are also deleted from Opera's cache the use cookies to trace password protected pages is selected.

The next options are to specify how Opera will handle Cookies, what types of cookies it will accept, and gives the option to manage stored cookies.



The Security Preference allows you to manage how Secure Opera will be on the internet.

Enable Wand can be used to activate the Wand Password Manager to allow Opera to Save the login information you use to access specific Websites. You also have the ability to Manage the Saved Wand Passwords by selecting that button.

To prevent other users from using your Security Certificates and Saved login information you can set a Master Password that will need to be entered every time you try to access a secure site you have the login and certificate information Saved for.

Security Protocols and Certificates are used to communicate securely on websites where sensitive data may be exchanged, like credit card information or bank account information. The Security Protocols as well as Certificates that Opera uses can be managed as well.

You can also set how Opera will warn you about submitting forms insecurely or validating a web pages.



This Server Manager Window allows you to manage the passwords you have asked the Wand Password Manager to remember.

In here you can delete the saved passwords or edit them to reflect new information in case the saved password is changed.

You can also search for specific password by using the Search field.



Security Protocols allows you to manage what security protocols Opera will use. Most secure websites require at least SSL 2, with 128 bit encryption. The higher the SSL level as well as the higher the encryption the more secure the information submitted on a secure site will be.




Certificate Manager Personal Tab allows you to manage your personal Security Certificates needed to access some secure websites. You can view these or delete them, you can also import them from another browser or export them to another browser.




The Certificate Manager Authorities are used to validate or identify secure websites. If you are browsing to a secure website and the Certificate this website uses is not listed by one or more of these authorities Opera will pop-up a window and tell you that the Security Certificate does not appear to be valid and then it will give you the option to accept it anyways.




This Server Manager Window allows you to manage the Cookies you select to have Opera Save. There are by default a few generic ones in here, these can be deleted if you never use them.

It is recommended to allow Opera to cache the Cookie itself instead of creating new ones, or editing existing ones unless directed to do so by the owner or webmaster of a specific website.



The Manage Accounts window allows you to manage the email accounts that are set-up in Opera. You can set-up multiple accounts.

To add a new email account select the New button and then follow the Wizard to create the account.

To Delete an existing account, highlight the account and then select Delete.

To edit an existing account highlight it and then select Edit.




The New Account Wizard allows you to create regular email or POP accounts, as well as IMAP, News, Opera Web Mail, or Chat Accounts. It also allows you to Import email accounts from different Email Programs.

To create a new Pop Mail Account, highlight the first option.

Then Select Next.



The next screen will ask for you some general information.

The Real Name should be your own personal name or can be a business name. This is the name that will head any emails that you send out.

The Email Address will need to be your OneWest.net email address.

Organization can be the organization you are part of, this field is not necessary but can be filled out if you would like to specify an organization.

Then Select Next.



The Outgoing tab allows you to customize how the Opera mail client sends messages out.

    1. The encoding should be set to default.

    2.  Automatically wrap outgoing messages

    3.  Queue messages, allows you to compose messages and then select send but they will not be immediately sent out until you ask Opera to do so.

    4.  Send queued messages after checking email will send any messages in the outbox in Opera when Opera connects to the incoming mail server to receive new email.

    5.  Add contacts when sending, will add the email address you are sending to into your contact list.

Signature allows you to specify the file path to the location of the Signature you would like to end the messages you send with.
