The Friends system
gives you increased control over email that is
allowed into your mailbox. The Friends system
features several levels of filtering, which means
that you can tailor the level of email filtering
to best meet your needs. As a OneWest customer,
all email sent to your OneWest address goes through
Spam Raider, a firewall that is
used to filter out Spam and virus infected emails.
However, with the new Web Email Interface, you
can enhance Spam
Raider by customizing your Filters
and Exceptions, and
by selecting one of several of the additional
email filters offered by the new Friends system.
The Friends settings
are found by selecting the Spam
Control button on
the Options screen. You can turn
Friends on or off there. You can
customize your
Friends filters by selecting the
Advanced button on the Spam Control screen.

- This option turns off all of the Friends features.
The default setting is set to disable Friends,
which means that you must select a higher level
of filtering to utilize the Friends features.

- Kid Safe
- By selecting this setting, email will be accepted only from addresses you have added to the Address
List section of the Friends screen. Email originating from an undefined email address will automatically be blocked.

- Apply 'Friends' List
- This setting will keep track of new addresses,
but will not interfere with their delivery to
your mailbox. This feature is useful for building
a list of friendly email addresses. This will
allow you to create a list of acceptable email
addresses to be used with the other filtering
options.

- Request Confirmation
- This feature is commonly referred to as a challenge
setting. When an email is sent to you from an
email address that is not on your address list,
the system will not deliver the message to your
mailbox. Instead, the email is kept in the Pending section of the
Friends screen. The originator of the message is
sent a challenge message asking if they are real.
The original message will remain in the Pending section until the originator replies back to the
confirmation message. Once a reply message is received,
that address is added to the Address
List, and no
more challenges will be sent to that address. This
is a very useful SPAM fighting technique because
SPAMMERS will not respond to challenges; only valid,
real users respond to challenges.

- Add All Outgoing Email Addresses
to Address List
-
This option is used to automatically add any
email address you send to your Address
List in
the Friends feature. This feature
is great for keeping your Address List up
to date, and can be used with any of the Friends filtering
features.
With this option enabled, your address
list is updated every time you email someone
new, so as you add friends online, or find a new business
contact, you can rest assured that their email will
be allowed into your mailbox unhampered. Or, if a contact
changes their email address, the first time you email
them, they are added to your Address
List, so there is no need to worry about manually
keeping the Address
List up to date. Even if a Friend (someone
in your approved email address list) tries to send
you an email that contains a virus, our Anti-Virus
protection would still block this email to protect
you from receiving the virus via an email or email
attachment.
