Follow the four easy steps below to activate your personal web space and share information with your family and friends!


STEP 1:
Call Onewest.net and ask us to Activate your personal web space.


STEP 2:
Download an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program.

or go to 
www.tucows.com for other ftp programs
or
www.fetchsoftworks.com ( for Mac)


STEP 3:
Upload files to your personal web site. 

Files can be text documents, pictures, .wav files or any other file you want to share. Keep in mind that the total amount of information on your web site cannot exceed 10 MB. 

NOTE: The following instructions are specific to the WS-FTP application, but generally apply to most FTP clients. 

Upload Instructions
1. Start WS-FTP 

2. Under PROFILE: type in OneWest 

3. Under HOST: ftp.onewest.net 

4. Enter USER ID: this is generally your email address

5. Enter PASSWORD

6. On right side of box, unclick "anonymous login" 

7. Click OK

8. You should now be able to see your home directory. 
Look at the top of the right box - it should say that the Remote Site is: /

9. Double click "public_html" on the right window.

10. You should then see this directory on top of the "remote" side of the box. See screen shot below:



11. A directory for Your Computer and Your Files is located on the Local side of the box (the left half of the screen).

12. Look through your local directory and find the file you want to upload.

13. Highlight the file that you want to upload by clicking on it one time.

14. If you are building a webpage, you will need to code the page, then name the page index.html and upload it the same as above.

15. Click on the arrow that will move the file from the Left to the Right to add the file to your personal web space directory.

16. View your file in the Right Box. 


STEP 4: 
Share your file with friends and family!

If you go to a web browser (Internet Explorer, or Netscape), type in 
www.onewest.net/~yourusername/filesname.extention
Hit your enter key.

The web page displayed should show you the file you just uploaded
For instance:
www.onewest.net/~joekelly/babypicture.jpg

Now you can send your friends and family this link and they can look at the picture. You do not need to email them a huge file that takes them hours to download!

If you built a webpage, your page will be able to be seen only if you have named the page index.html. The URL (address of the page) is www.onewest.net/~yourusername
