Uploading HTML Files Using WS-FTP

NOTE: These instructions are specific to the WS-FTP application, but generally apply to most freeware FTP clients.

  1. Start WS-FTP
  2. Under PROFILE: type in OneWest
  3. Under HOST: ftp.onewest.net
  4. On right hand side of box, unclick "anonymous login"
  5. Now log in as yourself under user
  6. Tab down - then put in your password
  7. This is now your home directory and you can tell that by looking on the top of the left hand box - it should have Remote: /home/(your user id)
  8. If you do not see a public_html directory:
    • Click on the box - "mk dir"
    • Type in public_html, then click OK
    • You will not see the directory until you click the "refresh" button on the right hand side of the box.
  9. Then double click "public_html"
  10. You should then see this directory on top of the "remote" side of the box.
  11. Now use the Local side of the box (this is on the left hand side)
  12. You will now have to look through your local directory and find the file that has the htm files.
  13. Once you have done that, select the file that you want by clicking once - then change that to an ASCII form. There are three buttons that you can click near the bottom of the screen - ASCII, Binary, L8. All htm files must be ASCII and all images must be binary.
  14. Once you have selected ASCII click on the arrow that will move the file from the Left to the Right (there are two arrows in between the boxes in the middle of the screen)
  15. Then click on "refresh"
  16. Highlight the file and then click on "rename" this is over by the "refresh" button.
  17. When you rename the file is as to have the extension "html"
  18. Then "refresh" again
  19. You can now check it to see if it is working - go into Netscape - at the home OneWest page - it will say http://www.onewest.net/ and you will add to that title ~(your user id)/(and then the file name)
  20. You will have to repeat this process for every file that you move over.
